Report by Daniel Mortlock:
We interrupt this weather report on the torrential drought of 2012 to bring you unconfirmed reports of a cricket match happening in Cambridge this evening. This rumour is already trending on Twitter, but the best information we have is in the form of a text from Romsey captain Andy Owen: "result remnants 149 for 3 d.norman 92 not out romsey 113 all out". So not only a successful - if belated - start to the Remnants season, but a particularly good start for Dave Norman who, as a result of his heavy scoring today, has lifted his Remnants career average to 57.22, the highest on record.
While Dave obviously dominated the batting, there were a couple of useful support innings from Kiran Sakhamuri (16 retired hurt) and Joe White (19*). And in the field it was a nice all-round start to the season, with six players getting wickets and five taking catches. Joe took the bowling honours with a spell of 2/5, but Jim Dowsett (2/37) and Matt Hughes's son Harvey (1/13) both got wickets in their first match for Remnants. Not to be outdone, our third debut player, Tom Collett, completed a catch and that rarest of Remnants achievements a direct-hit run out. So, all in all, a pretty good day at the office.
