Fielding first against the RGO today we spent a pretty torturous hour or two having our bowling hit all around the park. Colin Anderson (0/18) and Les Collings (0/15) were at least reasonably economical, and Rob Harvey (1/32) and John Meed (2/27) both got wickets, but we conceded an average of more than 8 runs per (6-ball) over. The problem was that the astronomy batsmen had rather taken a liking to Anton Garrett's medium pacers, smashing a rather cruel 63 runs off his four overs, giving him the dubious honour of having bowled the most expensive spell in the club's history.
It seemed a dismal Remnants loss was just 20 overs away, whereas instead we completed one of grandest victories, overhauling our target without even losing a wicket. This was due to superb batting by Dave Williams (110*) and Ev Fox (50*), who put on an undefeated 170-run partnership, thus acquiring a much more welcome Remnants record, that of the highest ever partnership for the club).
