A fairly uninspiring batting performance was rescued from disaster by Mike Sneyd (51*) and Clarke Brunt (26), the other five batsmen all being dismissed for 3 or less. Steve Gull (1/15) and John Leigh (2/20) both contributed usefully to the defense of our small total, but the clear star performer was Roger Lewis, who took 6/19, the best bowling figures in club history. That meant that the final over began with The Eagle needing 8 to win; Geoff Hales (0/6, to go with two catches) stepped up and restricted the batsmen to the point where they started going for desperate singles, and their last man was run out off the penultimate delivery.
